Lubiha Perez, BSN, RN, CHRN, is a registered nurse in the Hyperbaric Medicine Department
at Northwell Phelps Hospital, part of the Northwell Health System in NY. The hospital is home
to the largest clinical hyperbaric chamber in the Northeast, being in the top 2% of patient volume
in the country. She brings nearly two decades of dedicated experience in hyperbaric and diving
medicine, with a career that reflects deep technical expertise, clinical excellence, and long-
standing commitment to the specialty.
Lubiha began her career in hyperbaric medicine in 2007 as an Emergency Medicine
Technologist, a role that introduced her to hyperbaric operations and laid the foundation for her
initial hyperbaric certification as a hyperbaric technologist and chamber operator. Building on
this early experience, she later pursued formal nursing education and obtained hyperbaric
nursing certification through both the National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical
Technology and the Baromedical Nurses Association. She subsequently earned her Bachelor of
Science in Nursing from SUNY Delhi.
In addition to her clinical responsibilities at Northwell Phelps Hospital, Lubiha has been an
active member of the U.S. Hyperbaric Tunnel Medical Team since 2013, where she specializes in
The medical support of compressed air tunnel workers during large-scale tunnel boring
operations. Her role in this highly specialized environment underscores her expertise in
occupational hyperbaric medicine and high-risk clinical care.
Throughout her professional career, Lubiha has been recognized for excellence in nursing
practice, including nominations for the Northwell Truly Award and the Rising Star Award at
Northwell Phelps Hospital. She is an engaged participant in the hospital’s Collaborative Care
Council, contributing to initiatives that empower nurses to improve patient outcomes through
evidence-based nursing practice and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Outside of clinical practice, Lubiha is a certified scuba diver and an accomplished endurance
athlete, having completed six marathons—achievements that reflect both her personal discipline
and her connection to the diving and hyperbaric community. She is a proud member of
The Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society and remains committed to advancing the science,
safety, and education of hyperbaric medicine.
Looking ahead, Lubiha aspires to complete a master’s degree in education and to serve as a nurse
educator within the hyperbaric medical community, further extending her impact through
mentorship, training, and professional development.
