Kara C. Martin, RN, BSN, has been a practicing hyperbaric nurse since 1996. She is certified in Hyperbaric Observation and Monitoring and started working in hyperbaric medicine under Keith Van Meter, MD, F.A.C.E.P., in New Orleans, LA. Kara has experience in management related to nursing and hyperbaric medicine, care of patients in mono- and multi-patient chambers, critical-care dives, dive-related emergencies, and tunneling interventions for compressed-air workers. Kara works with Dr. Owen O'Neill, MD, MPH FUHM, as a US Hyperbaric medical team member on tunneling interventions with compressed air workers. Kara graduated from Louisiana State University Medical Center in New Orleans with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and holds a Multi-State Nursing license, including New York and California. She is an active member of the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS) and the Baromedical Nurses Association (BNA). Kara is also currently a BLS-certified instructor. As a registered nurse since 1995, Kara has worked in several areas of nursing, including hyperbaric medicine, critical care, surgery, post-surgical recovery, urology, home health care, pain management, wound care, and community/school nursing.
